Monday marked the beginning of the official flood fight for the Fargo-Moorhead community with efforts focused towards the goal of filling 1,000,000 sandbags before the thaw.
Groups from all over the city came to volunteer their time and energy to the cause, and Phi Chapter was quick to form an effort to extend our helping hand. Last year, the men of Phi Chapter donated over 2650 hours of service over the entire flood season to come to the community’s aide, and this year we are ready as ever to do our part in fighting another flood. We as a chapter set a goal amongst our near 80 membership to serve 3000 hours over the entire flood season to help do our part.
Yesterday, over 30 brothers came together from 4 pm to 8 pm to serve at “Sandbag Central”, a public works facility set up with several sandbag-filling machines and staffed with agencies coordinating the flood fighting efforts. With our help, over 35,000 sandbags were filled on Monday. Several members were also interviewed for their perspectives on the flood and sandbagging effort. Here are the links to those interviews.
